The event is organized for the second time in Greece by Hermes Yachting and Think Blue, under the auspices of the Yacht Club of Greece and aims to become an international sporting event attracting participants from all over the globe. The Yacht Club of Greece is the largest and most prestigious yacht club in Greece.
The idea is to create an event that will promote corporate sailing. To create an event that will act as a catalyst to the formation of corporate teams constituted by employees and executives of companies. The existence of such teams can be much of a benefit to the company as:
• Sailing can help in team building
• Sailing can promote competitiveness
• Sailing can help people work as teams and can promote bonding and good cooperation
• Sailing can build characters
In the 2010 Corporate Match Race, 14 teams of employees have participated from companies of all industries.
Any HR department will highly appreciate employees that will transfer the good mood and the skills mentioned above to their corporate environment. All the above skills can be easily mastered offshore…
The races will again be sailed in Platu 25 keelboats and the format of the race will be match race. Many events, including the Americas Cup are sailed in Match Race format. Each company team will have 2 sub-teams. (e.g. COMPANY will have Company 1 and Company 2 each sub team comprising of 5 members.) There will be a Round-Robin between all sub teams and then a semifinal and a final. There will be a trophy for the 3 best placed sub-teams and a trophy for the 3 overall best placed companies. Also, a trophy for the team with the best outfit and a trophy for the best placed “Masters” and “Junior” teams.
The event will be open to the public and sponsors are encouraged to organize events in the premises of the yacht club and also invite spectators. A spectator boat can be arranged to be available on request. The view though from the clubhouse is more than enough!
Participants will have plenty of time to get to know each other and make new acquaintances between racings. The clubhouse, renowned for its hospitality will provide the perfect scenery.
In an effort to promote corporate sensitivity for environmental issues, the event will donate 10% of the entry fees to an environmental organization. Sailing is all about using wind power to produce work. Thus, a perfect example, set already for centuries, of an environmentally friendly practice.
The event will attract employees and executives from various industries. Thus, sponsors interested in targeting corporate customers are highly encouraged to support the event. The organizers will also consider any possible promotional idea a sponsor may come up with, for the event.
